BREATHING
The COVID Response Team is a not-for-profit group of engineers, medical doctors, researchers and others dedicated to saving lives during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our main goal is to provide emergency ventilators to meet the huge demand for supportive breathing equipment as a result of the spread of the disease.
covid-19 problems
-
3% of patients who contract COVID-19 will require intensive care, including the use of a ventilator.
-
In Ireland, this figure could reach over 50,000 patients.
-
In a typical year, 7000 patients are ventilated in Ireland. This capacity could need to increase almost tenfold.
THE VENTILATOR
The Emergency COVID Ventilator is designed to be produced by anyone, anywhere in the world. Drawing on our design team’s experiences from areas as diverse as aerospace and motorsport engineering to marine and medical device engineering, we have developed a simple, low-cost and rapidly manufacturable concept.
OUR ADVICE
While we stress the importance of funding ventilators and other equipment, it is still highly important to continue with social distancing measures. The team urges the public to remain vigilant, to limit social interactions where possible and to continue practicing thorough hand hygiene. We can only meet the demand for hospital equipment if the public can limit the spread of infection.
